A RARE sight was spotted in a Hawkenbury pub recently – an old fashioned bar-billiard table. Is this the only old one in Tunbridge Wells?

Yvonne Blanche of the Royal Oak, Prospect Road Wells said it's proving hugely popular with her customers and has become quite a local attraction.

The landlady acquired the vintage table a few months ago and had it restored. It now takes pride of place in the pub with customers queuing up to have a game. Made by Sams Brothers she estimates it to be from the 1920s at the latest.

She said: "I always wanted one of these and it's lovely having it in the pub. The old tables are much smaller and fit in better. It is so lovely to hear that old fashioned pub sound of the billiard balls dropping in".

The pub has just finished its first in-house contest and Yvonne wants to start up a new bar billiards league in the area.

She said: "There used to be a local league but it's now defunct. I'd like to issue a challenge to any other pubs in the area with teams. We're ready to take you on".
