A RECORD-BREAKING magician conjured up a smile on people's faces at a show in Tonbridge.

Jordan Barker, 16, who took up magic only a year ago and holds the world record for the highest throw of a playing card, shared the basics of his talent at a workshop at the Angel Centre.

Thursday's event was organised as part of Fixers – a movement of 16- to-25-year-olds across the country who are taking action to change things in their community.

The Hillview School sixth form pupil wanted to cheer up gloomy Tonbridge residents with his tricks. He said: "I've only been doing magic for just over a year, but in that time, I've really changed because of it. It has really helped build my confidence and personality. Too often though, when I walk around town, I find myself to be the only person smiling. I want to inspire people to feel like nothing is impossible and there is always a reason to dream and be cheery."
