CONTROVERSIAL Kent businessman Jimmy Godden has died.

The amusement arcade and fun park tycoon died in his sleep last night following a two-year battle with cancer.

The former Dreamland and Rotunda boss was being treated with chemotherapy weekly at the Royal Marsden Hospital in London.

Mr Godden bought Margate's Dreamland amusement park in 1996 from the Bembom family and previously operated Ramsgate Pleasure Park and the Rotunda on Folkestone seafront.

He was described by long-standing friend Frank Thorley as a "shrewd" businessman and amassed a wide portfolio of investments.

Mr Godden owned properties across the east of Kent in towns including Ramsgate, Dover and Folkestone, where he was born.

Be that as it may, the man cost hundreds, if not thousands, of people their jobs all in the interest of personal gain, not to mention the divit that caused in the economy. Some people are better off gone. Death doesn't clear your slate if you were bad, just stops it from getting worse. The picture of the fat guy in front of a status vehicle says it all. "Elevator going down, Mr. Godden." While I'm sure he had good qualities, caring for his community wasn't one of them. With wealth comes responsibility, and not just to your family bank account.

They should put a 'D' at the end of his number plate, and sell that too as 'Funds'

No need to raise money for the Cancer Trust set up by Jimmy's widow, just sell part of the tycoon's empire. Job done!
